PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's freshman golfer Jimmy Bea has been named to the PING All-Region Team, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Monday. Bea, who was selected to the Northeast's All-Region Team, is the first Hawk to earn regional distinction since Billy Stewart earned All-Mid-Atlantic Region honors in 2004.
The only Saint Joseph's golfer to compete in all 11 tournaments this year, Bea quickly proved to be one of the top competitors on the team, placing seventh at the Navy Fall Invitational. Following up with a pair of top-20 finishes, he posted a then career-best tie for fourth place at the Georgetown Hoya Invitational in October.
Not to be outdone, Bea capped the fall season with an even-par score of 140 at the Old Dominion/Seascape Invitational to finish tied for first. The Hawks' leader in strokes-per-round (75.8) and top-20 finishes (five), he ended the year with a tie for 27th place at the 2009 Atlantic 10 Championships as SJU finished in ninth place as a team.
