PHILADELPHIA - In 2006, the Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team faced a daunting schedule of Atlantic 10 and non-conference games. The Hawks finished in a tie for seventh in the A-10 last year, coming in at 5-11 overall. Head coach Denise Roessler welcomes back a handful of experienced upperclassmen for the 2007 campaign, as the Hawks will look to build on the foundation laid down last season.

Offensively, Saint Joseph's brings back three of its top four scorers from 2006. Leading scorer Kerry O'Connell departs the squad after graduating, but junior midfielder Lindsey-Kate McCool (18 goals, 20 assists), senior attacker Kristina Jaggers (25G, 3A) and junior midfielder Christina Colangelo (11G, 4A) will all contribute to the Hawk attack. Jaggers led the team with her 25 goals, while McCool's 20 assists paced the Hawks. Colangelo was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Academic team in 2006, and has started all 31 games in her career. McCool and Jaggers also pitched in with 53 and 45 ground balls, respectively.

Sophomore midfielders Jessica Westlake (12G, 2A) and Karen Wiley (10G, 3A) round out the quintet of double-digit goal scorers returning from last year's team. Westlake also led the squad in draw controls last season, winning 66 face-offs for the Hawks, and earned A-10 All-Rookie status. Wiley had two game-winning goals for SJU as well. Suzanne Finley started two games last season, and will look to chip in on the attacking end during her final season on Hawk Hill. Junior midfielder Colleen Ingelsby scored three goals and tied for third on the team with four assists while starting every game for the Crimson and Gray last season.

On the defensive side, the Hawks have a strong core of seniors to rely on. Jen Fletcher (1G, 3A) and Megan O'Donnell, a pair of three-year starters, will anchor the Hawk defense. Fletcher scooped up 23 ground balls, seventh on the squad, while O'Donnell was sixth with 24, last year. Fellow senior Katelyn Kinney played in 13 games last season, and recorded six ground balls. Also returning are junior Alison Bean and sophomore Jontell Lyons. Bean contributed on the offensive end with three goals, while Lyons started 13 games and recorded 12 ground balls and five draw controls. Sophomores Meghan Cullinan and Jessica Fletcher will add depth to the rotation after redshirting in 2006. Fletcher joins her sister Jen on the Hawk backline. In goal, senior Sarah Magan will hold down the fort for the Hawks. Magan started all 16 games for Saint Joseph's and was in net for over 90% of the minutes last season, recording 101 saves.

This season, the Hawks will play host to non-conference rivals Drexel and Lafayette in addition to taking on Robert Morris, George Mason, Long Island, and Rutgers on Finnesey Field. The Hawks will travel to Wagner, Villanova, and Lehigh before the conference slate gets underway. SJU will host defending Atlantic 10 champion Richmond to start the A-10 schedule. The Hawks will hit the road to face St. Bonaventure, La Salle, George Washington, and Massachusetts. In addition to the game with Richmond, Saint Joseph's will host Duquesne, and close out the season with a home contest against the rival Temple Owls.
