PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team fell to city-rival Penn, 6-0, Sunday afternoon at Rhodes Field.
The Quakers took control of the match from the beginning, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the opening six minutes. Penn's Mara Fintzi scored the first of her two goals at 3:12 as she headed in a crossing pass from teammate Molly Weir. Fintzi added her second a little more than two minutes later, gathering a crossing pass from Weir again and this time beating SJU's sophomore goalkeeper Megan Bastianelli at 5:38.
Penn added its third goal of the half in the 22nd minute off the foot of Jessica Fuccello, as the Quakers entered the half up 3-0 and with a 16-0 advantage in shots.
It was more of the same in the second stanza as Penn controlled the pace of the contest. Weir tallied a pair of goals, while Eileen Larkin added the sixth Quaker goal as Penn finished the game out shooting the Hawks 25-2.
Individually for the Hawks, senior forward Shannon Osborn was credited with both SJU shots, while Bastianelli made four saves in a losing effort.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 2-2 on the season, while Penn improves to 3-1.
Saint Joseph's returns to action this Friday, September 14, at Georgetown. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
