Hawk Golfers Place 11th at First Market Bank Invitational

WILLIAMSBURG, VA - Posting a four-shot improvement from the first round to the second, the Saint Joseph's golf team finished 11th at the First Market Bank Invitational Tuesday afternoon at River Course at Kingsmill Resort.

As a team, the Hawks opened play Monday with a score of 303 to finish tied for 12th in the field of 19. With Tuesday's round of 299, Saint Joseph's broke its tie and moved up a spot to finish 11th with a score of 602.

Individually, senior Colin Corrigan, junior Steve Hudacek and sophomore Bill Macknis fought tough conditions to finish tied for 25th in the field of 103 competitors. Corrigan posted a score of 72-76/148, while Hudacek shot an opening-round 71 and a final-round 77 for 148. Macknis carded a team-low 70 in Tuesday's final round, to go with a 78 from the opening day to finish with a score of 148.

Sophomore Zach Smith rounded out the squad for SJU with a score of 82-77/159, while freshman Josh Webb was forced to withdraw after the opening round.

Francis Marion University won the team title with a score of 569, while Mark Sommerfield of Detroit won medalist honors with a birdie on the first playoff hole after carding a two-round score of 137.

The Hawks return to action Saturday and Sunday, March 29-30, at the Towson Invitational.
