PITTSBURGH - The Saint Joseph's baseball team dropped its series-opening game at Duquesne Friday evening, 6-3 to the Dukes. The Hawks and Duquqesne face off in game two at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
After spotting the Dukes a run in the bottom of the first, the Hawks tied the game in the top of the third on a RBI single by outfielder Ben Wendle.
Duquesne regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth as Brian Bernardo and Joe Berletic each recorded a RBI apiece to give the Dukes a 3-1 edge.
Saint Joseph's came within 3-2 in the top of the sixth on a sacrifice fly by Mike Gentile, but the Hawks wouldn't get any closer as Duquesne outscored SJU 3-1 over the final three plus inning.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 6-31 overall and 3-13 in Atlantic 10 play. Duquesne improves to 14-22 overall and 5-11 in conference.
