PHILADELPHIA - Three Saint Joseph's student-athletes received weekly honors from the Atlantic 10 on Monday afternoon. Field hockey players Anne Schreuders and Kelly Swanick were named the conference's field hockey Player and Rookie of the Week respectively, while golfer Jimmy Bea earned Rookie of the Week honors as well.
Schreuders scored two goals and added two assists this week as SJU went 3-0 in its first road trip of the season. On Saturday, Schreuders scored in a 2-0 Hawk win over Virginia Commonwealth. She then scored the first goal of the game and assisted on SJU's other two goals in the 3-2 overtime win over William and Mary on Sunday. Schreuders now has four goals and four assists for 12 points on the year.
Swanick earned the victory in all three Hawk triumphs this week, including a seven-save shutout in the win at VCU. She now has a goals-against average of 1.15 for the season as well as a pair of shutouts to her credit. This marks her second weekly award of the season; on September 2 she received Co-Rookie of the Week honors following SJU's shutout win over Bryant.
Bea was selected Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week following his first collegiate competition in which he placed in the top-10 and helped the Hawks to a third-place finish.
After shooting an opening round 72 at the United States Naval Academy Golf Course, Bea capped his first action as a Hawk with a round of 71 on Saturday, jumping up to finish seventh in the field of 89. His two-round score of 143 also helped Saint Joseph's capture third place, marking the team's best finish since the 2006-07 season.
