PHILADELPHIA - Four Saint Joseph's student-athletes were honored on Monday with Atlantic 10 weekly awards. Senior forward Krista Bordogna was named Field Hockey Co-Player of the Week while freshman forward Ellen Rowe earned Field Hockey Rookie of the Week honors. SJU freshman Jimmy Bea was named Golf Rookie of the Week, while men's cross country freshman Kevin McDonnell was also tabbed as Rookie of the Week.
Bordogna had a career day on Saturday afternoon, scoring three goals in the 4-0 win over Saint Francis (Pa.), including two in the first 1:21 of the game. Her first career hat trick gives her four goals for the season. She shares this week's award with Sarah Blythe-Wood of Richmond.
Rowe scored her first career goal in Sunday's loss to #16 Rutgers. She tipped a long pass into the cage to put SJU on top two and a half minutes into the contest. As a rookie, she has made three starts, including the last two games, and has seen action in all 12 SJU matches.
Bea was selected Atlantic 10 Golf Rookie of the Week following his tied for 18th place finish at last weekend's Cleveland State Telich Sun Life Financial Invitational. The freshman carded a three-round score of 73-74-77/224 at the par-72 Sand Ridge Golf Course, helping the Hawks to a 12th-place finish. The honor marks the second time Bea has been recognized by the conference.
McDonnell posted a season-best 8K-time (25:14) at the Paul Short Invitational as the Hawks' third runner. His time was the sixth-best freshman time in the highly competitive race, which featured many nationally-ranked squads. McDonnell was a 109th-place finisher, which ranked him tops amongst A-10 freshman in the competition. McDonnell has shined against the best, placing as the third best freshman in the Paddy Doyle/Iona Meet of Champions, which previously earned him A-10 Rookie of the Week honors.
