Box Score

Superb goalkeeping, exacting shots, and solid defense led to a surprising outing Friday night in SJU women's soccer. Saint Joseph's broke its 11-game losing streak in impressive fashion, defeating St. Bonaventure 2-0 on Finnesey Field Friday night.

Lauren Sawyer opened up the scoring just over five minutes into the game on a long ball by Ashley Bugnar over the middle for a 1-0 lead.

St. Bonaventure kept possession for much of the play after the SJU goal, they couldn't stop the counterattack-minded Hawks as Kristie-Anne Hoban hooked up with Laura Adams, who scored her first goal of the year to push the lead to 2-0 in the 32nd minute.

As the game wore on, SBU found its offense and open shots, but not the net. Outstanding play by Megan Bastianelli, including two spectacular saves from close range kept the 2-0 lead intact for the Hawks.

The best chance the Bonnies had was on a Courtney Bosse one-on-one opportunity in the 72nd minute. Bosse dribbled past two SJU defenders and an out-sprawled Bastianelli at the top of the penalty area and had an open net and kicked it wide across the goalmouth. After that, SJU's defense stood tall, withstanding 12 St. Bonaventure second half shots.

Saint Joseph's improves to 3-12 on the season while the Bonnies fall to 4-9-1.
