Baseball Drops Doubleheader at Washington

SEATTLE, Wash. - The Saint Joseph's baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader on Saturday, dropping the first game, 1-0, before falling 9-1 in the second.

In game one of the doubleheader, Saint Joseph's (1-7) lost a pitcher's duel, 1-0, in a seven-inning game. Junior Kyle Mullen tossed a complete game for the Hawks, allowing just the one run on two hits in six innings, fanning five. Aaron West and Joshua Fredendall combined on a one-hitter for the Huskies in the win.

Washington (7-3) scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI groundout by Jayce Ray.

The Hawks notched their lone hit when freshman Brian O'Keefe ripped a single up the middle with one out in the top of the fifth.

In the nightcap, the Hawks took a brief lead early but eventually fell to the Huskies, 9-1.

SJU got on the board first, taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on an RBI single by O'Keefe.

The Huskies tied things up in the bottom half on a single by Ray. Washington went ahead in the fourth, scoring on back-to-back singles by Branden Berry and Jacob Lamb, to take a 3-1 lead.

Washington added three-spots in the sixth and seventh to set the final margin. In the sixth, Lamb singled in a run before a Michael Camporeale sacrifice fly and a Ty Afenir single left the score at 6-1. UW extended the lead on another RBI single by Lamb and a fielder's choice by Trevor Mitsui.

Alex Pracher took the loss for SJU, allowing five runs on eight hits and a walk in five innings. Austin Voth held the Hawks to a run on three hits in six innings for the victory.

The teams will play another doubleheader on Sunday afternoon beginning at 4:00 p.m. Eastern.
