PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team members Jenna Martino, Jen Fletcher, and Jessica Westlake were honored by the Atlantic 10, conference officials announced Wednesday. Martino was named to the Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse All-Rookie Team while Fletcher and Westlake were selected to the A-10 Academic All-Conference Team.
Martino had a breakout freshman season for the Hawks, starting 15 out of 16 games and garnering a .564 shooting percentage. Martino led the team in goals and points with 31 goals and six assists for 37 points. She also led the team in free position goals with eight and added 11 groundballs, seven draw controls and caused two turnovers in her first year on Hawk Hill.
A sophomore starter at midfield, Westlake finished the 2007 season second on the team in goals (27) and points (34) with 27 goals, including two game-winners and seven assists. Westlake scooped up 16 groundballs this season and caused six turnovers while leading the team in draw controls with 38, ranking her fourth in the conference. An accounting major, Westlake was named to both the SJU Athletic Director's and Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Rolls all three semesters of her collegiate career. Westlake was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team in 2006.
Senior co-captain Fletcher has proven to be a key defensive player throughout her four years with the Hawks. In her final season in the Crimson and Gray, Fletcher recorded 28 groundballs and caused 11 turnovers. She started all 61 games during her career and finished with 88 career groundballs. Fletcher, majoring in elementary education, was named to the SJU Athletic Director's Honor Roll the past two semesters along with making the Atlantic 10 Commissioner's Honor Roll last semester.
