ANNAPOLIS, MD - Three second-half goals proved to be the difference as Navy downed Saint Joseph's University 4-1 this evening at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
Navy opened the scoring in the 14th minute as Claire Henry took a corner kick and beat SJU freshman goalkeeper Jen Kuhn.
Hawks' sophomore Ali Wean tied the score four minutes later, beating the Rams' goalkeeper who came out to challenge the shot.
With the score tied 1-1, Navy scored three consecutive second-half goals to put the game away.
Katie Eames scored the go-ahead goal in the 49th minute and Brigitte Fox tallied two late insurance goals to help the Rams prevail 4-1. For the game, Navy out shot the Hawks 18-6 and edged SJU in corner kicks, 7-1.
Kuhn was the hard-luck loser, making seven saves on the night, while Kim Bonafede made three saves to earn the win.
With the loss, Saint Joseph's falls to 3-6-0 on the season, while Navy improves to 6-4-1.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Friday at Massachusetts. Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
