Saint Joseph's Mourns Passing of Former Baseball Coach Al Brancato

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's athletics mourns the passing of former head baseball coach Al Brancato, who served as head coach of the Hawks from 1958 to 1964. He was 93 years old.

After three seasons as an assistant coach under Jack Ramsay, Mr. Brancato took over the Hawks in 1958 and coached for six seasons. His 1961 squad went 9-7 in the MAC.

He was inducted into the SJU Baseball Hall of Fame in 1998.

Mr. Brancato played for the Philadelphia Athletics from 1939 to 1941 and in 1945.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 10:20 a.m. at the Donohue Funeral Home in Upper Darby, Pa., followed by the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. St. Laurence Church in Upper Darby.
