PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team got a pair of goals from freshman Mo Hawkins as the Hawks capped their 2010 season with a 2-2 draw against Saint Louis Sunday afternoon at Finnesey Field.
Saint Louis opened the scoring in the fourth minute as Emily Kryzer headed in a goal for the Billikens. With the ball in SJU territory, Jessie Jarrett played the ball to teammate Jenny Hummert, who then centered the ball into the Hawks' box. Kryzer ran under the pass and deflected it into the right side of the net at 3:52.
Hawkins tied the game at 1-1 in the 38th minute, converting a pass from junior Maggie Lupinski. Lupinski drove to the right end line before lofting a ball toward the left post. Hawkins beat several SLU defenders and deflected the ball into the net to even the game at 37:11.
The Billikens (4-9-6, 3-5-1 A-10) again regained the lead, this time taking advantage of a failed clear by SJU. With the ball deep in the Hawks' zone, a SJU defender tried to clear the ball only to have it blocked and driven toward the SJU net. In a race for the ball, Saint Louis' Jasmina Suljic gained control and placed a shot to the far right post that found the back of the net at 72:29.
The lead didn't last long as Hawkins recorded her second goal of the day. Hawkins took a centering pass from junior Jen Pfeiffer and drilled a shot to the right side that found the back of the net at 76:47.
The game remained knotted at two all, forcing extra time. Despite outshooting the Billikens 6-2 in the frames, the Hawks couldn't break through as the game ended tied.
The draw caps the Hawks' season at 5-11-2 overall and 2-5-2 in Atlantic 10 play.
