PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team fell to La Salle, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at Finnesey Field. Junior Jen Pfeiffer scored the lone goal for the Hawks.
Saint Joseph's started the game attacking with three shots including two back-to-back shots that La Salle's goalkeeper Gabby Pakhtigian was able to get her hands. The Explorers got on the board nearly two minutes later when La Salle's Erin Brennan collected a rebound off of teammate Kierstyn Mabey's blocked shot and touched the ball into the net at the 31:03 mark.
After four La Salle shot attempts the Hawks fired five shots in the last 10 minutes of the frame, but Pakhtigian held her ground in net for the Explorers and came up with three more saves to keep the score at 1-0 heading into the break.
In the second half La Salle wasted no time, bumping the lead to 2-0 when Brennan headed a ball into the goal off a cross from teammate Renee Washington for her second goal of the game. Saint Joseph's struck back just six minutes later when Pfeiffer was there to punch in a rebound from teammate Mo Hawkins to make it a 2-1 game.
Pfeiffer sent two more shots LaSalle's way before the Explorers would cushion their lead with a goal in the 73rd minute and another goal 10 minutes later to make it a 4-1 final.
Pakhtigian made seven saves in the game while SJU goalkeeper Lauren Jancuska made three saves in net for the Hawks.
Saint Joseph's (3-6-0) returns to action on Friday when they travel to Richmond for a 7:00 p.m. match.
