Villanova, PA - Seven different Hawks added to the scoring column for Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse match-up against Villanova Tuesday, March 13th, at Villanova Stadium. SJU advances to 2-1 after defeating the Wildcats, 13-7.
Saint Joseph's led by two in the first four minutes of the game, after Christina Colangelo netted an unassisted goal, followed by Lindsey-Kate McCool scoring off a pass from Jessica Westlake. The Wildcats cut the lead in half, but the Hawks quickly answered back, scoring three more goals in the next six minutes. Courtney McManama scored her first goal of the season. Colangelo then added her second tally of the game, assisted by Westlake, followed by an unassisted goal by Jenna Martino. SJU added three more goals before the break with McCool scoring again off a pass from Colangelo, Martino scoring a second unassisted goal, and Westlake finding the back of the net after a feed from Colangelo. The score stood at 8-3 at halftime.
The Hawks continued the charge into the second half, adding three more goals in the first seven minutes. Colleen Ingelsby and Martino each netted unassisted tallies, followed by Westlake scoring with an assist by Abby Renninger, bringing the score to 11-3. The Wildcats attempted to cut the lead, putting two more goals on the board, but a free position goal by Ingelsby along with an unassisted score canceled the VU goals out. Villanova was able to notch two more goals in the last two minutes of play but it proved not to be enough.
The Hawks took 20 shots for the day, won 11 draw controls, and scooped up 26 ground balls. SJU goalie Suzy Herlihy made 10 saves in the contest.
Saint Joseph's returns to action Saturday, March 17th when they travel to Lehigh. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
