Under the direction of third-year head coach Alex Kahoe, Saint Joseph’s returns 19 Hawks, including 2016 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year Rebecca Lane, A-10 First Team attacker Nora McCallion, and IWLCA Second Team and A-10 First Team midfielder Maggie Egan. SJU returns nine starters from a squad that won nine games and reached the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals last spring and welcomes 13 newcomers for the 2017 campaign.
Saturday's game will mark the 10th all-time meeting between Saint Joseph's and American. The Eagles own a 7-2 series advantage, but SJU is 1-1 under Kahoe. Despite a career-high seven goals from McCallion and a hat trick from attacker Sarah Smith, American took home a 15-12 win in the season opener last spring, while SJU's last win came in the form of a 13-12 triple-overtime victory on February 28, 2015.
In 24 seasons, the Saint Joseph’s women’s lacrosse program is 17-7 in its home opener.
American opened its season with an 18-6 loss to #20 Johns Hopkins on Wednesday afternoon. Jennifer DeSimone led the Eagles with three goals.
