Former Atlantic 10 standout Anna Zarkoski, a native of Norristown, Pennsylvania, is back on the SJU sidelines for a second season in 2015.
“Anna is a great young role model who embodies the meaning of an exemplary student-athlete,” head coach Lynn Farquhar remarked upon Zarkoski joining the staff in 2014. “Anna’s collegiate career showed distinct improvement throughout each year, and her passion and detailed eye will transfer well into the coaching world. Her goalkeeping expertise will surely strengthen our defensive unit at SJU.”
Under Zarkoski’s tutelage, goalkeeper Amelia Deibler posted the lowest goals against average of her career, and the lowest of any keeper to start every game in a season since 2008.
In 2013, Zarkoski became the first Richmond field hockey student-athlete to earn First Team All-America honors, wrapping up an outstanding career between the pipes for the Spiders. She was also named an NCAA Statistical Champion, posting the nation’s highest save percentage (.824) for the second time in three seasons.
Zarkoski was also named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team in 2012 and 2013. She also earned Atlantic 10 All-Tournament Team honors in 2013, while being named a Third Team All-America and Second Team All-Atlantic 10 honoree as well as a member of the NFHCA National Academic Team in 2011. After her senior season, Zarkoski was selected to take part in the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game.
She also has experience on the international level, as she was selected for the U.S. National Developmental squad and represented the United States in the 2012 Junior Pan Am Games.
An alumna of Villa Maria Academy, Zarkoski graduated from Richmond in 2014 and is currently pursuing her MBA at Saint Joseph's.
