PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Saint Joseph's senior Alyssa Monaghan has been named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team and redshirt freshman Katie Jekot has been selected to the All-Rookie Team, conference officials announced on Thursday.
Posting a career-best year, Monaghan leads the Hawks in scoring (14.7 ppg), three-pointers (65) and assists (95), while averaging 37.0 minutes per game. A Preseason A-10 All-Conference Third Team selection, the Hawks' co-captain currently ranks second in the A-10 in three-point field goal percentage (.401), third in three-point field goals made and free throw percentage (.849), and is fifth in assists and scoring.
A staple in the Hawks’ lineup the past four seasons, Monaghan recently set a new SJU record for career minutes played (4,053) and ranks third all-time in SJU history in career three-pointers made (219) and three-pointers attempted (623). She is fifth all-time in free throw percentage (.840) and 12th in points (1,252 points).
Missing the entire 2017-18 season due to a knee injury, Jekot has recovered from the injury to become a key contributor for Saint Joseph's this year. Appearing in all 30 games with 24 starts, she leads the Hawks in steals (35), ranks second on the team in assists (52) and three-pointers (41), and is third in scoring (7.5 ppg). Jekot saved some of her best performances for A-10 play as she upped her scoring to 8.9 points per game, including a career-best 24 points at Dayton.
Monaghan is the 20th Hawk under head coach Cindy Griffin’s guidance, and 63rd overall, to earn All-Conference recognition, while Jekot is the 14th Hawk to be named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team.
The eighth-seeded Hawks (12-18) take on top-seeded VCU (21-8) on Friday at 11 a.m. in the Quarterfinals of the A-10 Championship at Duquesne's A.J. Palumbo Center. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.
