BRONX, N.Y. - The Saint Joseph's women's basketball team's four game win streak was snapped on Thursday as Fordham topped the Hawks, 44-39, at Rose Hill Gym.
Down 33-22 to start the four quarter, Saint Joseph's (11-13, 8-4 Atlantic 10) battled back with a 7-0 run as a three-pointer by Sarah Veilleux made it a four point game with 7:15 to play.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, that would be as close as they'd get as the Rams never allowed SJU to come any closer from there.
In a defensive battle reminiscent of their earlier matchup on January 18, Fordham used a 9-0 run to end the second quarter to take control.
Down 12-11, the Rams (17-9, 8-4 A-10) scored nine straight points over the final 2:22 of the second quarter to take a 20-12 edge into halftime.
Fordham pushed its lead to as many as 11 in the third quarter before Saint Joseph's final push to start the fourth.
For the game, the Hawks went just 17-of-54 from the field (31.5 percent), 1-of-8 from three-point range (12.5 percent) and 4-of-6 from the foul line.
At the other end, Fordham was held to 13-of-49 shooting (26.5 percent), 3-of-17 from behind the arc (17.6 percent), but went 15-of-17 from the foul line (88.2 percent). G'mrice Davis led Fordham with 15 points and 16 rebounds.
Saint Joseph's returns to action this Sunday as the Hawks cap Big 5 play versus La Salle at 2 p.m. at Hagan Arena.
