The Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball schedule for 2018-19 is set and the Hawks will have 13 of their 18 Atlantic 10 games televised nationally this season. SJU’s exposure is part of an Atlantic 10 package that features a total of 159 national television appearances across the league’s four media partners – ESPN, CBS Sports Network, NBCSN and Stadium.
Saint Joseph’s will help tip off league play on Thursday, January 3 as it hosts George Mason on CBS Sports Network in the lone A-10 matchup for that night.
The Hawks will also be featured on the ESPN Atlantic 10 Friday Night Showcase four times this season; a home contest with Saint Louis (Feb. 8) and road games at Saint Louis (Jan. 18), Davidson (Feb. 15) and VCU (March 8). This marks the fourth consecutive year that ESPN and the Atlantic 10 are presenting the A-10 Friday Night Showcase, highlighting seven Friday primetime conference games. The seven league games feature seven different Atlantic 10 programs, each of which has a home game, through March 8.
Following the opener, SJU will host George Washington on January 6 on CBSSN and then go on the road for a pair, at St. Bonaventure on January 9 (airing on Stadium) and at Duquesne on January 12. The Hawks will return home to face Davidson on January 15 in an ESPN2/U contest and then head on the road for their first Friday night game against Saint Louis. SJU hosts Richmond on January 23, and after the traditional non-league game with Penn on January 26, will head to Dayton on January 29 (note date change) for a CBSSN telecast.
Saint Joseph’s opens February at home with a Saturday afternoon game against Massachusetts (February 2) on NBCSN followed a visit to local foe La Salle on February 5. The Hawks will host Saint Louis on Friday, February 8, in an ESPN2 broadcast, followed by a game on February 12th against St. Bonaventure on CBSSN. SJU will then head to Davidson on February 15 for a second consecutive Friday game on ESPN2, followed by back-to-back road contests at Massachusetts (February 23) and Fordham (February 27).
The Hawks will close out the home slate at Hagan Arena versus La Salle on March 2 on NBCSN and Rhode Island on March 5 (CBSSN). SJU will travel to VCU for the regular- season finale in a Friday night tilt on March 8 on ESPN2.
Additionally, 11 games of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Men’s Basketball Championship – returning once again to the Barclays Center – will be nationally televised. The two First Round games on March 13 will be carried by ESPN+. NBCSN will carry the second round and the quarterfinals, March 14 and15, and CBS Sports Network will air the semifinal games on March 16. CBS Sports will broadcast the March 17th final on network television for the 10th consecutive year as part of its Selection Sunday coverage with the championship returning to the iconic Brooklyn, N.Y., arena for the first time since 2016.
In the previously-announced non-conference schedule, Saint Joseph’s will have a minimum of five nationally-televised contests. The Hawks open play in the Myrtle Beach Invitational against Wake Forest on November 15 on ESPNU, while the remaining games of the tournament (Nov. 16 and 18) will be seen on the ESPN family of networks.
The Hawks’ Big 5 game with Temple at Hagan Arena will be broadcast on NBCSN while the matchup with Loyola Chicago at the Palestra on December 22 will air on CBSSN.
Additional regional and local television coverage for Saint Joseph’s, as well as all game times, will be released at a later date. All league games not picked up on broadcast television this year will be streamed through the Atlantic 10’s new partnership with ESPN+.
CBS Sports Network will carry 27 Atlantic 10 games and produce four league-dedicated episodes of its popular college basketball show, “Inside College Basketball,” branded “A-10 Tip-Off,” to air prior to selected conference games.
NBCSN’s A-10 schedule will again feature 33 total games, of which 29 are conference matchups or postseason games. All A-10 games on NBCSN will also be streamed on NBCSports.com and the NBC Sports app.
Stadium will carry 10 Atlantic 10 games, all during conference play, through its nationwide network of affiliates. All 10 Stadium television games will be carried digitally on ESPN+.
This marks the sixth year of the long-term television agreement between the A-10 and ESPN, CBS Sports Network, and NBCSN, and the second year of the Stadium agreement. Atlantic 10 institutions reside in states that comprise 33.3 million television households, approximately 30 percent of the total national media market. There are nine A-10 institutions in or adjacent to the top 25 media markets in the country.
