Junior Lamarr Kimble has been chosen as captain of the 2017-18 Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball team, as voted on by his teammates. It marks the second year in a row that Kimble will serve in the role, as he was a tri-captain last season.

The 6-0 guard from Philadelphia averaged 15.5 points per game for the Hawks before his season was cut short in February by a foot injury. Kimble topped the team in assists with 4.5 per game despite missing seven contests. He scored double figures 20 times in 24 games, and had five games of 20-plus points.

"I have great admiration for his teammates who selected Lamarr "Fresh" Kimble to be their captain. On a team that has demonstrated leadership across the board, I think the choice of Fresh shows a true appreciation for the young man that he is," said Hawk coach Phil Martelli.

In 2015-16, Kimble was the second sophomore in three seasons to be named a team captain, and was the third overall, following DeAndre’ Bembry (2014-15) and Joe Oakes, captain of the famed “Mighty Mites” team in 1936-37.

The Hawks open the 2017-18 season on November 11 at Toledo with the home opener set for November 18 against Princeton.
