Coach Info:
Position: Assistant Coach
Alma Mater: UC-Riverside '82
Experience: 5 Years

Matt Allison is now in his sixth season as Saint Joseph's hitting coach.  Before coming to Hawk Hill in 2013, Allison most recently spent three seasons as the hitting coach at Menlo College in Atherton, California.

Last season, the Hawks shattered the program record for home runs in a season, belting 57 longballs, en route to the program's second-ever 30-win season.  Allison helped tutor Deon Stafford, Jr., and John Brue to program records as well; Stafford notched a pair of three-home run games and hit a school-record 18 home runs, while Brue became SJU's all-time home run king, graduating with 30 round-trippers in his career.

In 2015, Allison helped guide two players to SJU hitting streak records, as Stefan Kancylarz tied the program record by hitting safely in 20 consecutive games before Brue broke that mark with a 22-game streak of his own.  Brue also set a new school record with 13 home runs in a single season en route to First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors.

The Hawk offense set a number of records and ranked among the NCAA leaders in numerous categories in 2014, as Allison helped the Hawks to a school-record 35 wins and a second place finish in the Atlantic 10.

Under Allison's tutelage in 2013, the Hawks saw their team batting average jump by more than 30 points while the offense scored nearly two more runs per game compared to 2012.  SJU was among the Atlantic 10 leaders in home runs in Allison's first season as well.

Prior to his tenure at Menlo, Allison was the head coach at Willamette University in Salem, Oregon, from 2003 to 2008. In addition, he has served as an assistant coach at the University of California-Berkeley, Georgetown, Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo, and SUNY-Cortland. Allison also spent time at Cornell while Hawks' head coach Fritz Hamburg was on the staff there as well.

"I've known Matt since we coached together at Cornell back in the early 1990s and since then, his accomplishments with respect to the offensive side of the game are very impressive," Hamburg said upon Allison's arrival. "His connection to the West Coast will enable us to continue to reach out to that area with our recruiting efforts. He has a tremendous level of baseball savvy and I couldn't be happier that he has agreed to join our staff."

Allison is a 1982 graduate of UC-Riverside and has received master's degrees from Syracuse and the New School for Social Research. He serves as the Hawks' hitting coach and also works with the squad's outfielders. Allison also coordinates camps and lessons as well as assisting with recruiting.
