NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The 2019 Saint Joseph’s men’s cross country team has been predicted to finish third in a field of 14 squads at this year’s Atlantic 10 Men’s Cross Country Championship, according to the conference’s preseason poll released on Friday afternoon. Voting was conducted by the league’s 14 head coaches.
Saint Joseph’s has finished as one of the top-three teams in the A-10 seven times in the last 10 years, which includes a pair of first-place finishes (2009, 2015), a trio of second-place finishes (2012, 2013, 2017), and a pair of third-place finishes (2011, 2014).
The Hawks placed fourth at 2018 A-10s and return their top two point scorers in All-Conference selection Zach Michon (10th) and Bobby Hastie (18th) while Matthew Scarpill (56th) returns as SJU's #7 finisher. SJU will look to fill the vacancy of graduates Will Sponaugle (27th), Jack Daly (32nd), Collin Crilly (37th), and Shawn Hutchison (46th), who finished as SJU's #3 through #6 runners.
The 2019 A-10 Men’s Cross Country Championship will be held at the Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va. on Saturday, November 2.
Saint Joseph’s opens the 2019 campaign on Saturday, September 7 at the Monmouth Kick-Off Invitational in Lincroft, N.J.
