The Saint Joseph's baseball team will host its final home games of 2017 this weekend when the Dayton Flyers visit Smithson Field for a three-game series, beginning with a doubleheader on Friday.

Due to a poor weather forecast, there is no longer a game scheduled for Saturday.  First pitch for Friday's twinbill is set for noon, while the series finale is slated for noon on Sunday.

With Saturday's cancellation comes the alteration of the annual Alumni & Family Day celebration.  The festivities planned for Saturday have been moved up to Friday on a limited basis.  Refreshments and Philadelphia-themed ballpark snacks will be available on Friday.

In addition, the annual Senior Day ceremony has been moved to Sunday.

• Last time out, Saint Joseph's (16-24 overall, 7-11 Atlantic 10) fell to La Salle, 5-1, on Sunday afternoon.  A pitcher's duel early, the game saw the Explorers take a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning before Deon Stafford, Jr., cut the deficit in half with a solo home run.  Unfortunately for the Crimson and Gray, La Salle tacked on two in the seventh and one in the eighth to come away with the win and take two out of three in the series.

• Over the weekend, Stafford moved into second place on the program's all-time home run list with his 26th and 27th career home runs.  The program's single season record holder with 18 in 2016, Stafford trails only John Brue, who hit 30 between 2013 and 2016.

 • On Wednesday, Dayton (17-31 overall, 6-12 Atlantic 10) topped Toledo, 4-1.  The Flyers and Rockets traded single runs in the third before UD scored singletons in the sixth, seventh, and ninth to secure the win.  Mason Kutruff allowed one run on six hits in eight and a third innings to earn the win.

• Last weekend, Dayton took two of three from then-first place VCU to vault the Flyers back into the hunt for a postseason berth.  In the rubber game, the Rams broke a 3-all tie with a pair in the top of the eighth, but the Flyers scored four in the bottom half and weathered the ninth to come away with a 7-6 win.
