ORLANDO, Fla. - Playing at the USTA National Campus, the site of the 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship, Saint Joseph's women's tennis team earned some experience on the courts on Thursday versus Bryant. Despite a strong effort by the Hawks, the Bulldogs prevailed in the end, 5-2.

The pairing of seniors Claire Minnoe and Alex Zachem at the top doubles flight gave SJU a 7-5 victory, but Bryant earned the match's first point with wins at the second and third flights.

In singles play, Bryant picked up wins at the second and third fligths to take a 3-0 edge, but Saint Joseph's fought back to make it 3-2. Minnoe was a 7-6 (6), 6-4 winner over Marion Bouillin at the top flight, while Sarah Contrata beat Briana Leonard, 6-1, 6-3 at the sixth flight.

Bryant would earn the team win though with wins at the fourth and fifth flights despite strong efforts from the Hawks' Alex Zachem and Katherine Devlin.

"The ladies played a very competitive match against a perennial conference champion and NCAA participant the Bryant Bulldogs," said SJU head coach Ian Crookenden. "After losing the doubles point and a quick loss at  No. 2 and 3 singles, the Hawks came back with victories at No. 6 and 1 before going down at No. 5, and finally a three set loss at the fourth spot. It was a well fought test on the courts at which we will be competing for the Atlantic 10 Championship."
