MEDIA, Pa. - The Saint Joseph's women's tennis team picked up its third straight win on Saturday as the Hawks topped Fairfield, 6-1, at Springton Tennis Club.

The Hawks opened with a trong statement versus the Stags as they captured the opening point with wins at all three doubles flights. Claire Minnoe and Alex Zachem were 6-2 winners at the top flight, with Maureen Devlin and Isis Gill-Reid teaming for a 6-3 win at the second flight. Sarah Contrata and Katherine Devlin capped doubles play with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

Moving to singles play, Minnoe earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at the top flight with Maureen Devlin following with a 7-5, 6-4 decision at the second flight. Gill-Reid picked up a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles as Zachem tallied a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. Contrata capped singles play with a 3-6, 6-1, 10-4 victory at the final flight.

"We played a team of good individual talent, but we combined well as a team to win the doubles point comfortably before the more difficult task of individual singles play," said SJU head coach Ian Crookenden. "Fairfield has a deep squad as evidenced by the close scores at positions No. 5 and No. 6, but our talent at the higher spots pulled us through. I am very pleased with the improved energy and confidence of the last two matches."

The Hawks (3-3) are back in action versus Queens College on March 11 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
