Opening with doubles play, the Hawks bounced back from a loss at the top flight to pick up the first point of the match with victories at the second and third flights. Maureen Devline and Maddie Graziani battled to a 6-4, victory at the second flight, while Sarah Contrata and Katherine Devlin teamed for a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles to give SJU a 1-0 edge.

Senior Claire Minnoe picked up a two-set victory over Brianne Lauria, 7-6 (4), 6-2 at No. 1 singles, while captain Alex Zachem downed Adrianne Alfonso, 6-3, 6-4, at the third flight.

Katherine Devlin was a 7-5, 6-2 winner over Sabrina Navarro at the fourth flight as Contrata followed with a 6-1, 6-2 decision against Maggie Glynn at No. 5 singles. Mary-Margaret Ewens battled back after dropping the first set at No. 6 singles to pick up a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory over Nicole Vasselle.

"The experienced Sarah Contrata and freshman Katherine Devlin put three big points on the board for us tonight by winning their doubles together and continuing by each winning convincing singles matches. After dropping the number one doubles, seniors captain Alex Zachem and partner Claire Minnoe regrouped and also posted good singles performances," said SJU head coach Ian Crookenden. "After clinching the doubles point at number two doubles with senior partner Maddie Graziani, Maureen Devlin went down in her singles. A solid come from behind performance by senior Mary-Margaret Ewens claimed the number six singles win making a decisive 6-1 team victory."
