PITTSBURGH - Saint Joseph's women's tennis team got singles victories from senior Alex Zachem and freshman Katherine Devlin, but host Carnegie Mellon pulled out the team victory, 5-2, over the Hawks on Saturday.

Opening play in doubles play, Maureen Devlin and Isis Gill-Reid earned a 6-3 victory at the second flight, but Carnegie Mellon earned the doubles point.

Moving to singles play, Zachem earned a 6-3, 6-4 win over Vinaya Rao in the fourth flight, while Katherine Devlin topped Courtney Ollis, 7-6 (3), 6-1 in the fifth flight. The Tartans picked up wins in the other four flights to close out the match.

"Better than our first match with Navy, but still below the level this team can play," said SJU head coach Ian Crookenden. "A little too cautious and tentative on key points and still too gun shy at net in doubles. I expect a more positive and determined attitude in future matches."

The Hawks (0-2) are back in action on Sunday at Duquesne.
