The Saint Joseph's softball team wrapped up the home portion of its 2019 schedule with a 3-1 victory over Drexel on Wednesday afternoon.

The Hawks (25-21) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Kirstin Cox scored from second off a single up the middle by Molly Kapala.

Kapala pushed SJU's lead to two in the third inning on double that scored Cox, while Carly Rybinski singled home Taryn Grober to make it 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth.

Drexel (30-22-1) pushed a run across in the top of the seventh as Reilly Jo Swanson stole home as part of a double steal with two outs, but SJU reliever Ashley Stokes was able to get the next batter to pop out to finish the game

In the circle, starter Chelsea Evans improved to 4-3 on the season as she tossed three scoreless innings, while Stokes earned her second save of the year with 2.0 innings of relief. Rookie Amanda Herr held the Dragons off the board during the middle innings as she allowed just one hit during the fourth and fifth innings.

At the plate, Kapala was 2-for-2 with two runs batted in, while Cox was 1-for-4 with two runs scored.

The Hawks cap the regular season with a three-game series at Dayton this weekend. The teams open play with a doubleheader at noon on Saturday, followed by a single game at noon on Sunday.
