Saint Joseph’s sophomore shortstop Molly Kapala has been selected to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Softball Team it was announced on Thursday.

Named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and All-ECAC Second Team, Kapala posted a stellar season in leading the team in batting average (.350), hits (56), runs (33) and doubles (12). Ranking among the top defensive players in the A-10, she finished third in defensive assists (119) and tied for fifth in double plays turned (nine). The A-10 All-Academic Team selection's performances shined brightest during conference play as she led the league in hits (32) and finished seventh in batting average (.416).

Kapala is joined on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Softball Team by Immaculata’s Annemarie Bartow, West Chester teammates Sara Ercolani and Madison Kelly, PSU Brandywine’s Julie Foeldes, Villanova’s Brittany Husk, Penn’s Molly Orestky, Neumann’s Jackie Schneider, Widener’s Katie Sterling and Performer of the Year, Jackie Bilotti of Arcadia.

The Hawks capped the season winning nine of their last 12 games to finish at 24-25 and 11-12 in conference play.
