ELON, N.C. - The Saint Joseph's softball team split its games at the Elon Tournament on Saturday. The Hawks fell 3-2 to Iona in the opener, but bounced back to beat Wagner, 3-2.

The Gaels took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Ciarra DiGuilio scored on a fielder's choice.

Saint Joseph's fought back to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth as Zierke singled home pinch runner Erica Nugent.

Kulp would give the Hawks' a 2-1 lead in the sixth as her two-out single scored Jancarla Herrera.

Unfortunately for SJU, Iona rallied in the sixth to regain the lead on runs off a wild pitch and RBI single.

Saint Joseph's would get a runner to second in the top of the seventh, but couldn't advance her further as Iona worked out of trouble to earn the win.

For the game, Kulp went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Zierke went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

In the circle, junior Madison Clarke allowed two earned runs over five innings, while striking out seven, but did not factor into the decision. Sophomore Abigail Stroud fell to 0-1 on the season as she allowed one run on one hit in an inning of relief.

In game two, Wagner jumped out to a 2-0 lead with runs in the first and third.

Saint Joseph's rallied to tie it 2-2 in the fifth on a two-run home run by Sarah Ostaszewski.

An inning later, Stacey Mayer singled home Madeline Brunck to give the Hawks a 3-2 edge.

Ashley Ventura closed it out in the seventh shutting down the Seahawks in order to earn the win.
