GILBERT, Ariz. – Saint Joseph’s field hockey seniors Victoria Kammerinke and Pepa Serrano were named among the top senior players in the nation as the selections for the 2019 Victory Sports Tours/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Senior Game were announced on Wednesday by the NFHCA.
The pair joined five other athletes from the Atlantic 10 on the list of selections. It marks the second consecutive season in which the Hawks have had two Senior Game selections; last year, Joely Helder ’19 and Anna Willocks ’19 were chosen and appeared in the contest.
Kammerinke is the Hawks’ all-time leader in wins and shutouts for a goalkeeper, and ranks second among all active NCAA goalkeepers in career victories. She has posted an 11-1 record this season with a pair of shutouts and was named the Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week on September 23.
Hailing from Kaarst, Germany, Kammerinke is the two-time Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year and First Team All-Atlantic 10 honoree. She is also the second Hawk to earn multiple NFHCA All-America honors, as she was tabbed for the Third Team in 2017 and the Second Team a season ago.
Serrano leads the Atlantic 10 with 25 points and 11 assists to date this season. She was named the Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Week on September 30 after her game-winner in the final minute led the Hawks past #17 Boston College, 5-4.
A native of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Serrano set a new school record for assists in a career earlier this season; her total currently sits at 42. The 2016 Atlantic Rookie of the Year, Serrano is a three-time First Team All-Atlantic 10 selection and was named to the NFHCA All-America Third Team in 2018.
The annual Senior Game is held in conjunction with the semifinals of the NCAA Tournament; this year’s event is set for Friday, November 22, at Wake Forest’s Kentner Stadium.
