GILBERT, Ariz. – The Saint Joseph’s field hockey team was ranked 12th in the latest Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll, released by the organization on Tuesday afternoon.
Last weekend, the Hawks won a pair of Atlantic 10 games, blanking Lock Haven, 4-0, on Friday before routing Saint Louis, 7-1, on Sunday.
Five previous Hawk opponents are ranked in this week’s poll. Delaware jumped one spot to number 10 in the rankings, while Syracuse and Boston College held steady at 14th and 17th respectively. Rutgers slipped one spot to 19th, while Cornell made its debut in the poll, coming in at number 24.
SJU has two games remaining against teams that are currently ranked; #11 Michigan will visit Hawk Hill on October 27, while the Hawks will visit top-ranked and unbeaten North Carolina in the regular season finale on November 3. Division I’s lone unbeaten, the Tar Heels were the unanimous number one this week, receiving all 48 first-place votes.
The Hawks have been ranked in each of the last 26 consecutive polls, and will put the nation’s longest home winning streak of 29 games on the line when they host Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday afternoon. Game time at Ellen Ryan Field is set for noon.
