PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad will close out a five-match homestand against Princeton this Tuesday, October 1 before heading to McCarthy Stadium to face local Atlantic 10 and Philadelphia Soccer Six rival La Salle on Saturday, October 5. Both matches are set to begin at 7:00 p.m.

The Hawks were predicted to finish eighth in the A-10's preseason poll. For the third consecutive year, the eight-team A-10 Championship will see the opening rounds played on the campus of the higher seeds. With matches set for November 9 and 10, the four advancing teams will battle for the A-10 postseason title at Fordham University's Jack Coffey Field in the Bronx, N.Y. on November 15 (semifinals) and November 17 (title game). The A-10 tournament champion will earn the A-10’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S (4-5-0, 0-2-0 A-10)
• The Hawks have won their last three non-conference matches, all at home, with victories over Stony Brook, 3-0, William and Mary, 4-1, and Lafayette, 2-1, and have played seven of their first nine matches of the fall on Sweeney Field.
• Over the course of SJU's four-match homestand, senior forward Leon Maric (3g) and junior midfielder Alvin Dahn (2g) have led the Hawks in scoring while sophomore goalkeeper Joseph Boehm (2-2-0) has turned in a 1.97 goals against average and .692 save percentage in all 365:37.

• On the season as a whole, A-10 Preseason All-Conference selections Maric (4g, 1a) and Ritchie Barry (2g, 4a) lead the Hawks in scoring.
• Saint Joseph's is coming off of an 8-7-3 season (2-3-3 A-10) from 2018 and returns 17 letterwinners, including nine starters from a season ago. Senior defender Mike Fornaro and junior midfielder Aidan Watkins captain the Hawks this fall.

• After opening the season with a 4-0 loss at then-#5 Duke, a 2-1 win over Rider, and a 2-0 loss at Loyola, Princeton bounced back to win three in a row against Monmouth, 2-1, Fairleigh Dickinson, 4-0, and Drexel, 3-1, entering Tuesday's match on Hawk Hill.
• Walker Gillespie (3g, 1a) and Kevin O'Toole (2g, 2a) lead the Tigers in scoring while Jacob Schachner (3-2-0) has seen a majority of the time in net, sporting a 1.80 goals against average and .654 save percentage in 450:00.
• Princeton went 10-5-3 overall and 5-1-1 in Ivy League play last fall and was selected to repeat as Ivy League champion this year, returning the 2018 Ivy League Player of the Year in O'Toole; the Tigers drew with Michigan, 1-1, in the NCAA First Round.
• The all-time series sits at 0-0-1; the Hawks and Tigers met, at Penn, on September 17, 2006 and drew, 1-1.

ABOUT LA SALLE (5-4-0, 1-1-0 A-10)
• La Salle snapped a three-match losing streak with back-to-back wins over Howard, 1-0, and most recently, Duquesne, 2-1 in overtime; the Explorers will host NJIT on Tuesday evening before meeting the Hawks on Saturday.
• Nigel Buckley (3g, 1a) and Pat McCarthy (2g) lead the Explorers in scoring while Brett Werner (3-4-0) sports a 1.68 goals against average and .739 save percentage in 644:33 through the first seven games. Carlos Mora (2-0-0) has played every minute of La Salle's last two matches, both wins, and sports a 0.48 goals against average and .800 save percentage in 186:16.
• La Salle was predicted to finish 13th in the Atlantic 10's 13-member field according to the A-10's Preseason Coaches Poll.
• The Explorers went 3-11-3 (0-5-3 A-10) last fall.
• Saturday's match will mark the 62nd all-time meeting between Saint Joseph's and La Salle, with the Explorers owning a 28-22-11 series edge. The Hawks are 0-7-2 against the Explorers under the direction of 10th-year head coach Don D'Ambra. SJU last defeated La Salle on November 7, 2008 by a final score of 1-0, on a Colin Baker penalty kick in the seventh minute.
