PHILADELPHIA – After leading the Hawks to a league point with a 2-2 draw vs. UMass in Atlantic 10 action last Wednesday, redshirt freshman defender Ben Cochran has been named the Philadelphia Soccer Six Defensive Player of the Week and freshman defender David Grana has been tabbed the Philadelphia Soccer Six Rookie of the Week.

Cochran broke a scoreless tie in the 61st minute to put the Hawks ahead, 1-0, against the Minutemen last Wednesday evening on Sweeney Field. From just about eight yards out, Cochran took a feed from freshman midfielder Ritchie Barry and headed his shot to the right of diving UMass goalkeeper Bardia Asefnia for the goal, his second in as many matches.

Cochran made both starts on the week and played the full 110:00 vs. UMass and the full 90:00 in SJU's 1-0 loss at Fordham on Saturday.

After UMass responded on Cochran's score, Grana assisted on the goal that broke the 1-1 tie in the 74th minute. The scoring play began with Grana stealing the ball from a UMass defender at around midfield. The rookie found space and rocketed off a shot toward goal that Asefnia just got his fingertips on. The ball richocheted off of the crossbar and landed at the feet of senior forward Isaac Agyapong, who tapped in home.

Grana also made a strong defensive play at Fordham on Saturday, where he blocked a Rams shot in the 17th minute of action. The freshman made both starts on the week and played the full 110:00 vs. UMass and the full 90:00 at Fordham.

Cochran, Grana, and the Hawks return to action this Wednesday, October 18 at La Salle (5-8-1, 1-4-0 A-10). Kickoff at McCarthy Stadium in Philadelphia is slated for 7:00 p.m.
