DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad dropped a 3-0 contest to Davidson in Atlantic 10 action at Davidson's Alumni Stadium on Wednesday evening. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 3-10-2 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play.
Davidson scored early in the fifth minute as Valeriy Sviderskiy scooped up a loose ball in the box and hit the back of the net to put the Wildcats up, 1-0, at the 4:05 mark.
The Wildcats would go on to score in the 41st minute on a header off of a corner and in the 48th minute on a half-volley off of a loose ball opportunity.
Davidson owned an 18-14 edge in shots, including a 10-3 first-half advantage. The Wildcats also earned seven of the match's eight corner kicks.
Senior midfielder Tim Lazorko and redshirt sophomore defender Ted Foley took two shots apiece while Lazorko and the freshman trio of forward Derek MacKinnon, midfielder Lou Vilotti, and defender Eddie McCusker each landed a shot on goal.
Vilotti had SJU's best look in the 58th minute on a blast from the top of the box, but Davidson's goalkeeper made a diving save to his left to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard.
Sophomore goalkeeper Bobby Edwards (2-7-2, 1-3-1 A-10) made two saves in the full 90:00. The Hawks were also credited with a team save, as junior defender Mike Stuski got his foot on a Davidson shot to keep the Wildcats from adding a score in the 64th minute.
Saint Joseph’s returns to action next Wednesday, October 28 at Dayton. Start time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at Baujan Field. This match was originally scheduled for October 10 but was postponed due to travel issues.
