Backed by goals from Lauren Dimes and Hannah Racis and a four-save effort by goalkeeper Grace Bendon, the Saint Joseph's women's soccer team opened the home portion of its 2017 schedule with a 2-0 win over Temple on Friday evening at Sweeney Field.

After a scoreless first half in which both teams had scoring chances, it was the Hawks (2-0-0) broke the tie thanks to a Dimes goal in the 55th minute. After some fancy footwork by Brittany Hartwell-Miller, the SJU sophomore found Dimes at the top of the right box. Off the pass, Dimes quickly one-timed a chip shot over the goalkeeper into the upper left corner to make it 1-0 Hawks at 54:12.

Saint Joseph's maintained its one-goal lead entering the 84th minute when Racis struck for her second goal on the year. Senior Lindsay Walder crossed a pass from the left wing to Racis, who quickly directed a shot that found the back of the left netting to make it 2-0 at 83:12.

From there, Bendon and the Hawks' defense would keep the Owls (1-2-0) at a distance pick up the win.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Sunday when it hosts Delaware at 1 p.m.
