RICHMOND, Va. – Three runs in the seventh and two in the eighth pushed the Saint Joseph’s baseball team past VCU, 6-2, at The Diamond on Saturday afternoon.  Mike Muha had a hit, three walks, and two RBI in the game, while Brian O'Keefe scored twice on the day.

Saint Joseph's (15-8 overall, 5-2 Atlantic 10) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, as a Muha walk and a Kevin Kratochwill double put runners on second and third with one out before a wild pitch brought Muha home with the game's first run.

VCU (21-7, 4-2 Atlantic 10) went ahead after a two-run single by Trevor Marino gave the Rams a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the fourth.

The Hawks answered in the seventh as Chris Hueth led off with a single before O'Keefe reached on a fielder's choice; Hueth was safe on the play due to an error. Collin Forgey followed, reaching base himself on an error that allowed Hueth to score and tie the game.

Two batters later, Muha hit a sacrifice fly to center to score O’Keefe and give the Hawks a 3-2 lead.  After a walk to Kratochwill, Taylor Boyd singled with the count full to drive in Forgey and extend the lead to 4-2.

SJU tacked on a pair in the eighth to extend the lead.  Ryan Pater led off with a single and moved up to second when O’Keefe walked two batters later.  Forgey was hit by a pitch to load the bases for Tommy Cunningham, who drew a walk to force in a run.  Muha followed with a single to push the advantage to 6-2, where it would remain for the rest of the game.

Daniel Thorpe allowed two runs on five hits, walking two and striking out three in six innings to improve to 5-0 on the season.  Tyler Pallante allowed just a walk over three shutout innings for his first career save.  Thomas Gill was charged with three runs in two innings of relief, taking the loss and falling to 2-2.

The teams will play the rubber game of the weekend series on Sunday.  First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
