PHILADELPHIA – The Saint Joseph's men's soccer squad will open the 2017 season at home vs. Temple (0-0) this Friday, August 25. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. on Sweeney Field.

Under the direction of eighth-year head coach Don D'Ambra, Saint Joseph’s returns 14 Hawks, including six potential starters, and adds 11 first-year players for the 2017 season. The Hawks will be captained by 2016 Atlantic 10 All-Conference Second Team selection and senior midfielder Matt Crawford, senior defender Ben Zambetti, and junior defender Eddie McCusker. Friday’s match will mark the 60th all-time meeting between Saint Joseph’s and Temple. The Owls own a 38-14-7 all-time series advantage, and the Hawks are 1-3 over the last seven seasons under D'Ambra's direction. SJU’s last win over Temple came in the form of a 1-0 home victory on September 14, 2013. The Hawks are 2-4-1 in season-opening matches under D'Ambra.

Temple was predicted to finish sixth in the American Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll, while forward Joonas Jokinen was named to the Preseason All-Conference Team. The Owls went 10-6-2 (2-3-2 AAC) last fall.
