Barrett Leads Women's Cross Country at Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Sophomore Rose Barrett placed 218th in a field of 365 finishers to lead the Saint Joseph’s women’s cross country squad to a 22nd-place team finish in a field of 24 in the 6k Brown Race of the 2017 Paul Short Run on Friday afternoon. The Hawks totaled 605 points in the race, which was hosted by Lehigh University at the Goodman Campus.

Barrett crossed the finish line in a collegiate-best time of 24:01, followed closely behind by freshman Kayla Martin (24:16 PR) in 238th.

Sophomore Samantha Mayers (24:44) and freshman Morgan Patten (24:49 PR) finished 281st and 288th, respectively, while sophomore Michaela Urbach rounded out the scoring with an 300th-place finish (25:00).

Sophomore Joanna DeSousa (303rd, 25:03) and senior Megan O’Dowd (323rd, 25:30) finished as SJU’s #6 and #7 runners.

Junior Julia Donahue led a trio of Hawks in the 6k open race with a time of 27:21, good for 237th in a field of 262. Donahue destroyed her previous 6k PR (31:28.5) by just over four entire minutes in the fastest 6k performance of her collegiate career.

Select Hawks are set to race George Mason Invitational tomorrow, September 30, to be hosted by George Mason University at the Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va. beginning at 10:15 a.m. This race will give the Hawks an opportunity to race the course of the upcoming 2017 Atlantic 10 Championship.
