Veilleux's Career-High 19 Points Helps Hawks Past NJIT

PHILADELPHIA - Led by a career-high 19 points from sophomore guard/forward Sarah Veilleux, the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team earned a 75-36 win over NJIT on Tuesday evening at Hagan Arena.

Using a 15-0 run to open the game, including eight from Veilleux, the Hawks quickly took control of the game.

Hitting 8-of-12 from the field and holding the Highlanders to just 2-of-16, Saint Joseph's built a 27-4 lead after the first quarter and extended its advantage to 45-17 by halftime.

The Hawks (3-6) continued to pull away in the second half, pushing their lead to as many as 42 as they improved to 2-0 all-time versus the Highlanders.

As a team, Saint Joseph's went 24-of-58 from the field (41.4 percent), 7-of-20 from three-point range (35 percent) and 20-of-23 from the foul line (87 percent). The Hawks finished with a 47-33 edge in rebounding and scored 16 second-chance points.

Veilleux, who went 5-of-9 from three-point range and 6-of-11 from the field, added four rebounds, an assist and a block shot. Junior Adashia Franklyn added 10 points and six rebounds, while classmate Chelsea Woods had a game-high 12 rebounds and five assists to go with eight points.

Alana Dudley had a game-high 11 points for NJIT as the Highlanders were held to just 15-of-57 from the field (26.3 percent), 1-of-11 from behind the arc (9.1 percent) and 5-of-11 from the foul line (45.5 percent).

Saint Joseph's returns to action on Sunday at Drexel at 2 p.m.
