PHILADELPHIA - A 7-0 run by Villanova midway through the fourth quarter proved to be the difference on Saturday as the Saint Joseph's women's basketball team fell to the Wildcats, 62-54, in a Big 5 matchup at Hagan Arena.

In a back-and-forth contest that had 14 lead changes and 12 ties, the Hawks and Wildcats entered the fourth quarter knotted at 42-42.

Villanova opened a 51-48 advantage with 6:17 to play, but SJU junior Chelsea Woods brought her team within one on a jumper with 4:27 to play.

That would be as close as the Hawks (2-5, 1-2 Big 5) would come though as Villanova used a 7-0 run over the next 3:55 to take a 58-50 lead on a free throw by Kelly Jekot with 32 seconds to go.

Saint Joseph's continued to press, but the Wildcats sealed the game from the line as they went 4-of-6 in the final moments.

In the first half, the Hawks jumped out to an early lead, 11-7, but the Wildcats tied the game at 13 after the opening quarter.

Saint Joseph's would take a 27-25 lead into halftime, but both teams traded baskets in the third, leading to a 42-42 tie and close final quarter.

For the game, SJU finished 23-of-54 from the field (42.6 percent), 2-of-6 from three-point range and 6-of-7 from the foul line (85.7 percent). Woods finished with her second-straight double-double as she finished with 17 points and 12 rebounds to go with two assists and two steals. Junior Adashia Franklyn was the only Hawk in double figures as she posted 14 points, three assists and a team-high three blocked shots.

At the other end, Alex Louin led Villanova (3-4, 2-0 Big 5) with 26 points as the Wildcats finished the game 23-53 (43.4 percent), 7-of-15 from behind the arc (46.7 percent) and 9-of-16 from the charity stripe (56.3 percent).

The Hawks return to action this Friday, December 9, at Central Michigan at 7 p.m.
