NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Saint Joseph's senior first baseman Kevin Taylor and junior righthander Kyle Mullen were named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. Freshman outfielder Ryan Pater was also tabbed for the league's All-Rookie Team.

Mullen and Taylor are Saint Joseph's first All-Atlantic 10 First Team honorees since Mike Walls received the honor in 2003. Mike Coleman was the last Hawk to be named to the All-Rookie Team; he received the honor in 2008.

Taylor led the Atlantic 10 in home runs in conference play, hitting six of his seven in league games. He finished the regular season with a .270 average and led the Hawks with 31 runs batted in. In the field, he set a new SJU record with 480 putouts on the season and has posted a fielding percentage of .990, making just five errors in 510 chances.

The Catonsville, Md., native was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on April 9 and pulled in Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Player of the Week honors on April 16 and May 21.

Mullen finished the regular season with a 6-4 record and a 3.13 earned run average in 14 starts. He dazzled in Atlantic 10 play, posting a 5-0 record with a sparkling 1.99 ERA as SJU won all eight of his starts in league play. Mullen also set a new school record for innings pitched in a season, having thrown 97.2 innings to date, and led the conference in strikeouts in league games with 52.

A native of Berwyn, Pa., Mullen was named both the Atlantic 10 and Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Pitcher of the Week on April 16 and May 21, and also earned Big 5 honors on March 13.

Over the past two seasons, Saint Joseph's has won 14 of Mullen's 16 Atlantic 10 starts, including the last 13 in a row.

Pater took over a starting job in the outfield in time for conference play and served as a catalyst at the top of the Hawk lineup. The Doylestown, Pa., product led SJU in batting average with a .279 mark, and his .384 on-base percentage and 11 stolen bases were the top marks on the squad as well. Pater was also chosen as the Philadelphia Big 5 Baseball Player of the Week on May 8.

Jeff Roy of Rhode Island was selected as the Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, while Joe Popielarczyk of Massachusetts was named the league's Pitcher of the Year. Rookie of the Year honors went to Richmond's Zak Sterling, while Darin Hendrickson of Saint Louis garnered the nod as the A-10's Coach of the Year.

Saint Joseph's begins the quest for its first-ever Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship on Wednesday afternoon at Fordham's Houlihan Park. The sixth-seeded Hawks will take on the third-seeded Rhode Island Rams at 3:30 p.m. A live web stream of the first three days of the 2012 Atlantic 10 Baseball Championship will be available free of charge at, while live stats and audio for all SJU games will be available at
