PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team falls to 3-2 on the season after being defeated by George Mason (4-3), 15-7, Sunday at Finnesey Field. Sophomore Jessica Westlake led the Hawks with two goals on the day, while the Patriots had two players notching hat tricks.

SJU opened up the scoring four minutes into play with an unassisted goal by Lindsey-Kate McCool. George Mason answered back two minutes later with a free position goal by Megan Udovich to even the score. A minute later the Hawks again took the lead as Westlake converted a pass from freshman Jenna Martino. The back and forth action continued as the Patriots tied the score at two with a goal by Laura King assisted by Julie Park three minutes later. Martino turned around and put SJU back on top with a free position goal less than a minute later. It was the last time the Hawks would see the lead as the Patriots went on to tie the score at the 12:44 mark with a goal by Brittany Berger. George Mason went on to tally three more goals before the Crimeson and Gray were able to answer back with freshman Abby Renninger scoring her third goal of the season. The Patriots found the back of the net three more times in the half, making the score 9-4 going into the break.

George Mason came out firing, adding two more goals in the first six minutes of the second half. Senior Kristina Jaggers put another goal on the board for SJU off a short pass from Martino to make the score 11-5, but George Mason added three more goals to their lead, creating a nine goal deficit. With 12:07 remaining, junior Ashley Brennan notched her third goal of the season with the help of McCool. Julie Park added her second goal of the game a minute later, making the score 15-6 for the Patriots. Westlake managed to tally one more for the Hawks, but SJU could not get their offense going enough to close the rest of the gap. The last 6:32 of play was scoreless.

Laura King earned a hat trick for the Patriots and a total of five points for the day. Julie Park added four points with two goals and two assists and Melissa Venturi had three with a hat trick of her own.

Jenna Martino notched three points for the Hawks with one goal and two assists. Westlake added two goals and McCool earned two points with one goal and one assist.

Sophomore Suzy Herlihy saw all 60 minutes in goal, making 10 saves for the Hawks. The Patriots split time in goal as Sara Longobucco played the first 48:30, and Roxie Alsruhe subbed in for the last 11:30.

SJU had 19 shots for the day and scooped up 10 groundballs.

The Hawks return to action Friday, March 30th as they take on Long Island at Finnesey Field. Game time is set for 6:00 pm
