Box Score

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's women's soccer team put forth a strong effort against the Atlantic 10's top team in Dayton Sunday afternoon, but the Flyers' two goals proved to be too much as the Hawks fell 2-0 at Finnesey Field.

Dayton took the lead in the 22nd minute, scoring off a corner kick from the left side of the field. The Flyers' Jerica DeWolfe played the ball into the Hawks' box, where teammate Stephanie Emery headed the ball to the left side of the goal and past SJU goalkeeper Christine Neal to give the visitors a 1-0 edge at 21:51.

It remained a one-goal game until midway through the second half, when the Flyers tallied their second goal off a corner kick. DeWolfe again volleyed in a kick from the left corner, this time, teammate Alexis Garcia redirected the ball into the net at 69:19 to give her team a two-goal cushion.

Saint Joseph's, which pressured the ball deep into the Dayton zone and had several scoring opportunities early in the second half, were held to just one shot in the final minutes.

As a team, Dayton outshot the Hawks 20-14 and finished with a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.

Neal was the hard-luck loser in net for SJU, making four saves on the day. Senior Lauren Sawyer led the offense with five shots.

Saint Joseph's returns to action this Friday at Rhode Island at 7 p.m.
