STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Captain Zach Michon continued his outstanding senior season with a seventh-place finish in a competitive 5.2-mile field at the Penn State National Invitational, held at PSU's Blue/White Golf Course on Friday morning. The Hawks accumulated 205 points en route to an eighth-place team finish in an 11-member field.

Ranked 11th in the most recent NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Poll, Saint Joseph's took down Lehigh, who finished ninth in the race and was ranked 10th in the region entering Friday's match-up.

At the two-mile mark, Michon was steady in 10th at 9:37.4 and went on to pick off Penn State's Billy McDevitt, Isaac Davis, Ben Bumgarner, and Andrew Sell and William and Mary's Patrick Lynch, Spencer Tsai, and Evan Goodell to improve three spots by the finish (25:40.8 PR); the PR is nearly 30 seconds faster than his previous 8.4k PR.

Michon finished ahead of all runners from Penn State, Georgia Tech, Lehigh, Kent State, and Bucknell in the 113-runner field.

"We needed a lot of guys to come forward today to make up for a few of our key members dealing with injuries," said Michon following the race. "Thankfully, they did, and we ran well as a team. This is going to build our momentum as we head into the conference meet in two weeks."

Junior Matthew Scarpill advanced 11 places from the two-mile mark to the finish en route to a 40th-place showing (26:24.9 PR) while junior Bobby Hastie (52nd, 26:44.6 PR) advanced seven spots and rookie Colin Kane (53rd, 26:46.3 PR) improved a phenomenal 38 places from the two-mile mark to the finish.

Additional Hawks will also race the Lafayette Leopard Invitational tomorrow morning while select Hawks will then be named for the 2019 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championship, set for Saturday, November 2 at the Oatlands Plantation in Leesburg, Va. A complete race preview will be announced in the upcoming weeks.
