NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph's junior Jordan Olenginski was named the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. Senior Kathrin Bentz pulled in her second consecutive Defensive Player of the Week honor, while freshman Kacie Patton was chosen as the league's Co-Rookie of the Week.
Olenginski started the weekend off with an assist on Friday as the Hawks won their home opener over Drexel, 4-1; she also helped start the play that led to the Hawks final goal of the afternoon. On Sunday, she opened the scoring against #19 Rutgers, taking a long pass on a breakaway before spinning and firing over the keeper to give the Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Bentz enjoyed another three-point performance on Friday against the Dragons, tallying a goal on a corner early in the second quarter before setting one up five minutes later on another corner opportunity. She is tied for the team lead with six points, having scored two goals and added two assists.
With the game against the Scarlet Knights tied in the fourth quarter on Sunday, Patton tipped home a pass from Pepa Serrano to score what would turn out to be the game-winner in a 2-1 win. The goal also gave Serrano her program-record 35th career assist.
The trio will help lead the 17th-ranked Hawks into their upcoming road trip, with games at #18 Syracuse on Friday and Cornell on Sunday. Saint Joseph's currently ranks atop the NCAA Division I statistical rankings in scoring average, scoring margin, points per game, and goals per game, while ranking second in assists per game.
