The Saint Joseph's softball team's quest for an Atlantic 10 title begins this Wednesday as the fifth seeded Hawks take on fourth seed Dayton in the opening game of the A-10 Championship at 11 a.m. Playing at the UMass Softball Complex, every game of the double-elimination tournament will be streamed as part of the Atlantic 10's ESPN+ subscription package with the champion earning the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

Saint Joseph’s is making its 20th appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship. Playing in their first A-10 postseason appearance under head coach Erin Brooks, the Hawks earned the fifth seed for the tournament after going 13-10 in conference play. SJU will face fourth seed Dayton in the first game of the A-10 Championship Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the UMass Softball Complex.

HAWKS CLAIM FIFTH SEED IN ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIP
Picked to finish seventh in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll, Saint Joseph’s proved voters wrong as it capped the regular season with a 13-10 record in conference play to finish in fifth place, just ahead of Saint Louis in sixth at 12-10. This year marks the fifth time the Hawks have earned the fifth seed for the Atlantic 10 Championship, with the previous time coming in 2016, where they advanced to the championship game. Two of Saint Joseph’s five A-10 Championship appearances (2009 and 2016) have come as the third overall seed.

SAINT JOSEPH’S AGAINST THE ATLANTIC 10 CHAMPIONSHIP FIELD
The Hawks enter the Atlantic 10 Championship with a 3-9 record against the tournament field. Saint Joseph’s went 1-2 versus George Washington, Dayton and Saint Louis and 0-3 versus top-seed Fordham. Massachusetts and SJU were not scheduled to play each other during the regular season this year.

Saint Joseph’s has faired well in its 19 appearances at the Atlantic 10 Tournaments as 25 different Hawks have earned A-10 All-Tournament Team distinctions. Only eight SJU players (Monica Aguilar, Dana Bieniek, Candace Clark, Erin Gallagher, Lauren Hughes, Dana Parks, Dana Travis and Sarah Yoos) have earned the honor multiple times, while two current Hawks have previously been named to an All-Tournament Team.
