The Saint Joseph's field hockey program will welcome a new class of student-athletes for the 2019 season. Over the coming weeks, we’ll introduce Hawk fans to the new additions, one by one. Today: Katy Benton.
Katy Benton, a native of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Saint Joseph’s field hockey program in advance of the 2019 season.
Benton, a midfielder from Methacton High School, helped lead her team to a conference title in 2017 as well as a third-place finish in District 1 in 2018. Benton was Methacton’s leading scorer as a senior and helped lead the Warriors to an undefeated regular season as a junior. She earned First Team All-State honors in each of the last two seasons and garnered NFHCA First Team All-Region and MAX Field Hockey Third Team All-America accolades as a senior as well.
“I cannot wait to join the Hawk family and help contribute to its success and growth as a team,” she said.
“Katy improves every time you see her,” head coach Lynn Farquhar said. “She is dedicated and committed, and her hours of training have paid off. Katy is a strong distributor who has the potential to impact our passing game immediately.”
Benton is a member of the XCalibur club program, with which she has won four National Indoor Tournament pool championships (2015-18), four Junior Premier Outdoor League titles (2015-18), and a trio of Junior Premier Indoor League championships (2015-17).
A member of the USA Field Hockey U17 National Team in 2017 and 2018, Benton also took part in the Futures program, playing in a pair of National Futures Championships and earning a selection to the AAU Junior Olympic squad in 2017.
“I chose Saint Joseph’s for its perfect mix of top-level field hockey and academics,” Benton said. “The location is perfect, and the campus feels just like home. The coaching staff and team are such a close family, and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
Benton and the rest of the new Hawks will join the squad in time for the 2019 fall season.
