PHILADLEPHIA – The Saint Joseph’s men’s and women’s lacrosse programs are pleased to announce that both games of the March 6th home doubleheader will be dedicated to the One Love Foundation. The men’s game against St. John's is set for 2:00 p.m., followed by the women's game against #11/8 Navy at 5:00 p.m., both on Sweeney Field.
One Love was created in 2010 to honor Yeardley Love, a University of Virginia women’s lacrosse player who was killed by her ex-boyfriend just three weeks before graduation. The goal of the One Love Foundation is to honor Yeardley by bringing an end to relationship violence by educating, empowering, and activating campus communities in a movement for change. The foundation works to ensure that everyone understands the difference between a healthy and unhealthy relationship.
Both teams will wear One Love-specific t-shirts during pre-game warm-ups, and fans will be able to purchase t-shirts during both the men’s and women’s games.
“We are honored to work with the One Love Foundation to do what we can to help educate people about healthy relationships and how to identify an unhealthy situation,” said Saint Joseph’s men’s head coach Taylor Wray. “We believe in the mission of the foundation and hope that we can use our sport in a positive fashion to help put a stop to relationship violence.”
“The One Love Foundation is an organization that is close to the lacrosse community,” said Saint Joseph’s women’s lacrosse head coach Alex Kahoe. “Many of us knew of or competed against Yeardley Love. We are honored to dedicate this game to awareness to bring an end to relationship violence in support of the One Love Foundation.”
